Joint multi-disciplinary operation yields success

A group of law-enforcers set out on July 26 to enforce the law within the uThukela Cluster.

The multi-disciplinary operation involved members of Ntabamhlophe, Amangwe, Winterton police, Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife, the South African National Defence Force, Estcourt Stock Theft Unit and Uthukela Crime Intelligence.

“The operation was aimed at combating stock theft in the cluster, which included the movement of stock along the Lesotho border,” said media spokesperson, Captain Charmaine Struwig.

After multiple vehicles, persons and premises were searched; two people aged 25 and 29, were arrested for housebreak-in and theft from a business in the Kwamkhize area of Ntabamhlophe.

The groceries stolen by the suspects were recovered during the successful operation. The suspects made an appearance in the Estcourt Magistrate’s Court last Thursday.

Two more people, aged 41 and 67, were charged with failing to brand their stock while another two, aged 30 and 36, were charged for driving a motor vehicle without licence.

Two more suspects, aged 61 and 54, were arrested in Loskop for being the possession of dagga. Both carried small amounts of dagga, 0.01g and 0.04g respectively. Some of the suspects either opted to pay an admission of guilt fine or received notices to appear in court on August 25.
