Suspect shot and injured in Loskop

The vehicle that was seized at the scene of a business robbery in Loskop.

A suspected business robber was shot and seriously injured by police in Amangwe on Sunday morning. Two men gained unlawful entry to a business premises in the Gcinusizi area in Loskop on August 6.

Police quickly responded to the burglary and when they arrived on scene the suspects fled but not before firing shots at the officers.

“The police officers retaliated and a suspect, aged 31, sustained a gunshot wound to his neck,” commented police spokesperson Captain Charmaine Struwig.

An unlicensed firearm recovered from the injured suspect.

The seriously injured man was arrested and an unlicensed firearm was recovered on scene. A second suspect proved evasive and fled from police. The injured man has since been hospitalised.

“Amangwe police are investigating a case of business robbery. Police are at this time busy tracing the whereabouts of the outstanding suspect. A vehicle used in the robbery was seized as evidence and it is suspected that it may have been stolen. Police will scrutinize the vehicle for evidence to determine who the rightful owner is,” added Captain Struwig.
