UPDATE: ‘Flesh-eating’ suspects to appear in court

Concerned residents have gathered outside the Estcourt Magistrates Court this morning where four people suspected of eating and possession human flesh are appearing in court.

The four suspects were arrested over the weekend when police discovered human remains in Rensburgdrift and Amangwe.

Police spokesperson Captain Charmaine Struwig commented on the case: “. Three of the suspects (aged 22, 29 and 32) face charges of murder and charges relating to the possession of human organs and tissue.

A heavy police presence outside the court.

“A fourth suspect is aged 31 and faces charges relating to the possession of human organs and tissue. The three suspects are alleged to have murdered a woman and then cut her body up. Allegations are that some of the suspects consumed some of her flesh while some of her body parts were shared with the fourth suspect in Amangwe.

“Human remains were found at one crime scene in Estcourt and another crime scene at Amangwe. At this time only one person is suspected of having been killed and her identity is as yet unknown.”
