UPDATE: Uthukela’s no show at water meeting

Ward 10 residents began to walk out on a meeting that was supposed to address their water issues until it got postponed.

Since the last water meeting, another was called up today at which Uthukela District Municipality Mayor and officials were thought to be present.

At 1pm the affected community members from Ward ten got seated at the Forderville Hall and waited for the meeting to start. While others took off from work and the rest on lunch break, people quickly grew impatient.

Ward Councillor Edith Lite then contacted Michael Singh telephonically, the regulator at the Department of Water and Sanitation to find out what the delay was.

“We will have to reschedule, unfortunately we held a meeting about your challenges, which started late and ended late,” he said.

The time recorded was 1:48pm. Upon hearing this, angered members who then walked out of the hall saying ‘it shows how much our issues are valued.’  The date and time of this meeting was issued by the Uthukela District Municipality and did not suit the affected community members.
