GALLERY: A royal affair at Hlubi nation celebration

Thousands of people from the length and breadth of South Africa and beyond gathered to honour King Langalibalele during a celebration on Saturday.

The Umgubho wamaHlubi of King Langalibalele was held at the Emadlangeni Royal Residence in kwaBhekuzulu, Loskop.

About 3 000 people attended this event, which is held annually to remember and celebrate a brave King who was arrested and imprisoned by the colonial government in 1874.

Saturday’s function was a grand affair, with high profile guests, which included amaKhosi from Eastern Cape, Rustenberg, Limpopo and the Western Cape, Hlubi clan members from Zimbabwe and Swaziland, Minister in the Presidency Jeff Radebe, representatives from the Premier’s Office and Inkosi Langalibalele and Okhahlamba municipalities.

Spokesperson for the Hlubi royal family Scelo Radebe, said the very successful celebration was hosted by the current King Langalibalele II Muzi weNkosi Johannes Radebe. Amid speeches and messages of support, traditional dances and music were enjoyed by all who attended.
“This celebration was a collective effort by all who were involved, everyone chipped in to make it a memorable event for the Hlubi nation,” commented Mr Radebe.
