Double success for police in Esigodlweni

The unlicensed firearm and 12 rounds of ammunition recovered from a 40-year-old woman.

Police recorded a double success in the Esigodlweni, Rensburg area.

An unlicensed firearm and ammunition as well as dagga were recovered in separate incidents. On January 15, during the early hours of the morning, the Uthukela Cluster Task Team were going about their duties when they received a tip off.

The information received alerted police of a person who was in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

“On arrival at a house in the Esigodlweni area, police discovered a 9mm firearm with 12 rounds of ammunition in the possession of a 40-year-old woman. She was arrested and appeared briefly in the Estcourt Magistrate’s Court on January 15,” said police spokesperson Captain Charmaine Struwig.

While continuing with their police duties, officers came across several bags of dagga that had been abandoned.

“The dagga was packaged in two 80kg bags and three 50 kg bags. The estimated street value of the drugs is around R450 000. At this time it is unknown who the bags of dagga belonged to,” added Captain Struwig.
