Colita bridge repairs come to a standstill

Materials to repair storm damage at this bridge in Colita have arrived.

It has been a month since the collapse of the bridge in Capricorn Road in Colita and the repair has reached a standstill.

On morning of January 29, heavy rain sent the frame work of the bridge floating into the waters below.

This prevented Estcourt Primary School learners from getting to school. Clean-up operations were in progress later that morning. Ever since then, it seems that the number of safety concerns that were expressed by residents have fallen on deaf ears.

A temporary solution could have been installed to limit the danger, posed daily as pedestrians use the route.

“Guard railings have arrived, municipal staff are waiting to finish with a pipe in Papkuilsfontein and then they will begin,” informed Ward 10 Councillor Edith Lite.
