To curb the proliferation of unlicensed firearms in the country, police conduct regular operations to identify and seize weapons and ammunition.
One such operation was held in Ntabamhlophe last weekend.
Police officers from Ntabamhlophe set up a stop-and-search roadblock in the Dutch area. During their searches, a 39-year-old man came onto their radar.
After a search of the man, police recovered a 9mm pistol and ammunition.
Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Basheer Ahmed Khan said that the man was charged for being in possession of a firearm and ammunition without a licence.
