Sewage spill meanders down Phillip Street

A blocked or burst sewer pipe is spilling its contents in Phillip Street, up to three times a week.

An awful stench hangs in the air at the end of Phillip Street, close to the Alfred Street intersection.

Upon closer inspection, it is evident that the foul stench is being caused by the pool of murky water, running off from a blocked or burst sewer pipe.

Several staff from shops in the area were appreciative when seeing a reporter from the Estcourt News taking photos.

“It’s about time something is done about this. It’s troubling us for far too long,” said one person.

Information received indicates that the gutter is flooded with sewage three, and in some instances four, times a week.
Most of the times, the repairs are done and the problem is alleviated.

However, a resident from a business in the area who spoke on condition of anonymity, said that the sewage overflow is a constant difficulty they face weekly.
